The purpose of this website is to help people get to know the music in Common Praise, the hymnal of the Anglican Church of Canada.
Important note: This site is NOT affiliated with the Anglican Church of Canada nor with any other institution or organization. It is the sole property of Gordon Johnston, and the opinions expressed herein are his alone. Nothing on this site should be construed as being the opinion or position of the Anglican Church of Canada, nor Saint Paul University, nor the Church of St John the Evangelist, Ottawa, nor any other organization you can think of.
The thing is, Gordon Johnston is completely nuts about church music. He's madly in love with Common Praise, and feels a missionary zeal to make Common Praise accessible and attractive to people involved in worship planning. More biographical details about Gordon can be found on his parish website, http://stjohnsottawa.ca/index.php/music/music-staff.
This site was created as an aid to students in the Anglican Community at Saint Paul University, to help them get a better idea of the musical characteristics of each hymn as they plan the weekly worship services of the Community. The comments contained herein, snarky or otherwise, are mostly intended as a way for Gordon to vent his spleen. Should they be helpful to others, that's great. Should they provoke outrage resulting in higher thoughts and more excellent worship, even better.
